There’s No Need To Pretend Trump Isn’t A Child

Trump was on his worst behavior Tuesday night. We really have to say that about a president!

The first Trump-Biden debate probably won’t make a huge impact. Nothing matters anymore. It was a complete train wreck and everyone watching came away immensely frustrated.

One thing that shouldn’t be hard to remember: Donald Trump is the cause of this absolute calamity. If Joe Biden were on stage with some vanilla Republican who is only a covert racist, not an overt one, we wouldn’t be bemoaning the dire state of our country right now. Media coverage has focused on the “name-calling” and “turbulence” of the debate. Technically, they’re not inaccurate. But Trump is the entire reason for all of it, and neglecting that inarguable fact does the public a disservice.

Watching Trump on stage is like watching a belligerent middle schooler who hasn’t quite thought out his opinions yet. Trump doesn’t give the appearance that he legitimately knows what’s going on; he just knows he disagrees with the other dude standing on stage. It’s painful to watch because of how juvenile it is. This is the leader of the free world standing at a podium and yelling rudely at anyone he can.

There can be no “both sides” here. Biden retaliated, but circumstances forced his hand. Trump created this.
