Nothing Matters Anymore, And That’s Really Bad
The Atlantic published a story on Thursday that claimed, per anonymous sources, that Donald Trump had made disparaging comments about fallen and injured veterans on multiple occasions. Trump reportedly called dead soldiers “losers” for getting killed and opposed appearing with soldiers who had been injured in combat.
One of my first thoughts while reading the article: this isn’t going to change anything. That is profoundly sad, given how absolutely insane those comments from Trump are. It’s hard to comprehend that an American president really said that.
And yet, every single dedicated Trump supporter will disregard those comments as fake news, published purely for the purpose of growing The Atlantic’s audience. Trump went on one of his unhinged tweet storms in response to it and claimed that none of it had ever happened. His press secretary did the same thing.
The Associated Press independently confirmed The Atlantic’s reporting, as did the New York Times, the Washington Post, and, wait for it, Fox News. With the exception of the latter, these are extremely legitimate sources, the highest class of journalism, and each have corroborated what The Atlantic originally reported.
